What is Papuni Boxing Ōtautahi (PBO)?

Papuni Boxing Ōtautahi is a grassroots boxing academy based in Addington, Christchurch. We're a, community-led organisation focused on empowering tamariki and rangatahi through boxing, discipline, and positive pathways.

Where are you located?

18b Clarence Street, Addington, Christchurch.

Who can join PBO?

We welcome tamariki (ages 7–11), rangatahi (12–18), and adults (16+). Whether you're new to boxing or looking to compete, there's a class for you.

Programs & Classes

What classes do you offer?

- Kids Boxing (Ages 7–9)
- Junior Boxing – Fitzy Class (Ages 10–12)
- Kotiro Boxing (Girls aged 12–18)
- Youth Boxing (Ages 13–18)
- Athlete Academy (Competitive, 11–18)
- Adult BoxFit (Ages 16+, Monday & Wednesday at 6:15 AM)

Are the classes suitable for beginners?

Yes. All classes are beginner-friendly and build confidence, fitness, and discipline from day one.

Can girls join?

Absolutely. We have a Kotiro class for girls aged 12–18, and girls are welcome in all other programs as well.

Registration & Waitlist

How do I register for a class?

Registrations open each term. You can sign up through our website or contact us directly. Many classes operate on a waitlist.

Do you offer free trial sessions?

Due to our current waitlist, we don’t offer free trials. However, you’re welcome to come and watch a class to see if it’s the right fit.

What happens if a class is full?

We’ll add you to the waitlist and contact you as soon as a space becomes available.

Fees & Support

How much do classes cost?

We keep our fees low to reduce barriers. Payment plans are available, and support is offered to whānau in need.

Do the fees cover the whole term
Yes, fees cover the full term of classes. Payment plans are available if needed.

How much is Adult BoxFit?

Adult BoxFit is $12.90 per session or $100 for a 10-class concession. Your first session is free.

What to Bring

What gear do I need to bring?

Please bring:
- Boxing boots or running shoes
- Hand wraps
- Mouthguard
- Sweat towel
- 750ml+ water bottle
- Spare clothes
Sparring equipment is provided for Academy and competition training.

Academy & Competition

How do I join the Athlete Academy?

Entry is by invitation. You need to show commitment, consistency, and a strong work ethic. The Academy is for competitive athletes and requires a 1-year commitment.

Does PBO compete in tournaments?

Yes. Our Academy team competes across the South Island and nationally, with international opportunities in development.

Parents & Whānau

Can parents stay and watch training?

Yes — parents are welcome to come in and watch during the final 10 minutes of class. 

Adults & Personal Training

Do you run boxing classes for adults?

Yes. Adult BoxFit runs every Monday and Wednesday at 6:15 AM. All levels are welcome, ages 16 and up.

Do you offer private training?

Yes, we offer one-on-one and small group personal training. Contact us to book.

Facility Hire & Contact

Can I hire the PBO gym?

Yes — our space is available for hire by sports groups, schools, and community organisations. Get in touch for rates and availability.
